Go Green
The sign and physical media industry is a huge producer of waste. Theia Media wants to change that. That’s why we do as much as we can to run a green and clean company.
Reduce Reuse Recycle
Vinyl, polyester, foam, plastics, metal and wood cut offs. Even the paper has a plastic coating. Most of the products in the sign and large format printing industry are made with materials that are meant to last a longtime and withstand the elements. This is good for the product, but not for the environment.
Theia’s response to this issue is to start at the bottom and work our way through the whole process in order to assess each step of the way doing what we can to keep it clean. From the energy that runs our systems, the products themselves, to even the removal of waste. It is all under consideration.
Let’s break it down with the Three R’s!
Reduce
The first R is Reduce. It means use less, create less waste, and make less of an impact. For our purpose, we try to use up as much of the material as possible.
Theia’s webpage is hosted by the renewable energy company Green Geeks
We print with latex inks. Latex is water soluble which means better for air quality and better for the environment long term.
We use recycled and recyclable materials whenever possible.
Theia Media is doing business as local as possible. We bank with a local credit union, buy supplies locally, and are proud to be local. We support local businesses and causes. Focusing locally means less travel and less shipping. Which means less burning of fossil fuels, keeping the air that much cleaner.
Sometimes a piece is cut from one we are using is big enough to be used for another job.
Adhesive vinyl can be used as hand cut stickers. And banner material can be cut up and sewn back together to make durable waterproof bags.
We like to cut adhesive vinyl into strips and use it as packing tape.
Reuse
This is the fun part. First of all, when we have excess and we reuse it, we save on material cost and so do you! But also, materials we can’t use, we donate so others can.
Recycle
A lot of these materials are hard to recycle. It takes an extra step that most shops aren’t willing to take. But we are.
Theia Media offers a wide range of recyclable materials for your project. There’s even a recyclable vinyl! We use recyclable and recycled materials as much as possible.
A lot of the packaging and materials used need that extra step to get them ready to be recycled. Boxes need tape pulled off of them. Vinyl needs separated from its backing paper. These are things that aren’t hard to do, they just take that extra motivation to do so.
Some of the materials in the sign industry are not easily recycled. They require extra steps. We take our vinyls that need this step to it’s proper recycling location.
